AAMA 30 Year Anniversary

All-Active Martial Arts: 30 Year Anniversary

1992 - 2022

Some 30 years ago this year, in August 1992, All-Active Martial Arts was born in a small hall out in Sunbury, Victoria. This was where, just over a decade into his martial arts journey, Hanshi Marc started his first club, albeit with a different name: Toussaint Dojos. A 2nd Degree Black Belt at the time, Hanshi Marc then spent the next ten years training and teaching at this location, before moving to a much larger and better venue around the corner in Sunbury, at the local Gymnastics centre.

Toussaint Dojos continued to evolve, offering more training systems including Eskrima and Muay Thai in addition to Zen Do Kai. As such, a new name had to fit all that was on offer. MT Academy was set to be our name for another 10 years or so. Hanshi Marc’s passion for teaching martial arts, drove MT Academy to expand and extend to more locations in the City of Melbourne, Carlton, Reservoir and Fawkner, as well as in Bulla (near the Melbourne airport).

From the very beginning, Hanshi Marc had the dream of teaching out of his own full time training centre (and to stop renting time and space out of other venues). This was a work in progress for several years, while Hanshi worked through the challenges that came along with finding a suitable venue: commercial leases, sale contracts and red tape – as well as ensuring the location was not too close to fellow martial arts clubs.

In 2011, right before finalising a venue near Thomastown (a great location with no surrounding clubs) as our first full time martial arts centre, our current location in Epping came up. (Sometimes, timing is everything!) As it turned out, the previous owner of our current building happened to be one of Hanshi Marc’s old students, who at that time was planning to move on from the location. Hanshi Marc had a great feeling about this location, and given the opportunity to make it our new home, a deal was made. On the 6th of February 2012, All-Active Martial Arts came to life!

As they say the rest is history – and now, 30 years on, from humble beginnings to full time, purpose-built martial arts training centre, All-Active Martial Arts, with the support of our members and a dedicated and talented team of instructors, look toward the future with excitement, optimism and a passion for what we do!
